Individual ABA Therapy
Cardinal ABA Program
Our individual ABA therapy sessions are programmed and monitored by a highly qualified Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) after your child’s initial assessment. During therapy sessions, a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) will target customized goals for skill acquisition and behavior management by isolating negative behavior to encourage positive behavior alternatives.
At The Cardinal Center, we offer ABA services through individual therapy at our center or in your home depending on your child’s individual needs and goals. As a parent, you will receive parent trainings designed to teach strategies to help you guide your child to be successful at home.
Group ABA Therapy
SOAR Program
SOAR classroom readiness is an insurance-funded program that places children ages 3-10 in a group of their peers, each with a dedicated Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) to help them work on peer play, socialization, communication, functional academics, and group activities.
Our SOAR program is designed for children ages 3 to 10 who have mild to moderate skill deficits and minimal unwanted behaviors. If your child hasn’t hit these targets yet, we recommend our individual ABA services program to build the foundation necessary for your child’s success in SOAR classroom readiness.
Program Details
During SOAR classroom readiness, our RBT will use ABA methods to work with your child one-on-one as they interact with other children their age. This involves figuring out what motivates them to learn and using that as positive reinforcement to help them hit different milestones.
As a parent, you’ll receive detailed progress reports of group therapy sessions. Parent training is an important component of ABA therapy, so we’ll teach you strategies to help support your child outside our “classroom setting” as they interact with siblings and other peers.
To track your child’s progress in SOAR classroom readiness, we’ll use the ABA services Verbal Behavior Milestones Assessment and Placement Program (VB-MAPP), the Assessment of Basic Language and Learning Skills (ABLLS), and the Assessment of Functional Living Skills (AFLS).
Our group therapy programs can be a full or a half day and take place at either our clinic or out in the community at social events, or in different environments for life skills training.
Getting Started
Your child’s SOAR classroom readiness plan will be based on our initial assessment, in which one of our Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) will meet with them and create a baseline report, which will be used to create our ABA services individualized treatment plan for your child.
From there, an RBT will work with each child during group therapy to help them hit the different goals we’re targeting. For example, if our goal for that session is for your child to initiate play with another child with minimal prompting, our RBT will help them work on developing that skill.
Classroom Academics
Academic Classroom Program
Our Academic Classroom Program is designed for children who are effective and independent communicators; will initiate play with their peers independently or with minimal prompting; are able to follow 2-3 step instructions; and have limited unwanted behaviors.(Our individual ABA therapy or group ABA therapy programs are a great place to start if your child hasn’t yet hit these targets!)
Academic Classroom Program sessions consist of classroom readiness groups with a maximum of ten children in each class, and it’s a private pay program, which means it’s not funded through your insurance. Classes take place at our clinic from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, five days per week.
Program Details
Like with our individual and group therapy programs, every child’s plan will take into consideration their individual and functional needs, as well as their age, goals, and the specific classroom setting they’re transitioning into.
- Instruction will consist of a variety of age-appropriate thematic activities, including but not limited to:
- North Carolina Standard Course of Study (NCSCOS) Common Core and extended content instruction
- North Carolina Standard Course of Study (NCSCOS) Common Core and extended content instruction
- Specialized ABA and verbal behavior instruction
With that in mind, every child’s plan will be a little different, and additional support is available depending on their needs. For example, if your child is homeschooled, we’ll provide 30 hours of supplemental instruction in our ABA services.
Getting Started
During our first meeting with your child, one of our Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) will conduct their initial assessment and use that to create a diagnostic report that will determine our clinical recommendations and determine if ABA services in the classroom will benefit your child.
Depending on the outcome of this, we’ll decide if your child could participate in the classroom setting independently, with a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) supervising, or one-on-one with an RBT. As a parent, you’ll receive a detailed monthly report, along with tips to help you support your child as they learn outside our “classroom.”

Online Parent Forum
If you’re not able to make it in person for Parent Support Group sessions, we have you covered. The Cardinal Center for Behavior Analysis also operates a private, closed Facebook group called the Cardinal Online Parent Forum, moderated by our Clinic Director and Family Resource Coordinator.
This group creates a safe space for parents to connect, swap stories, share advice, and seek support from other parents of children with autism — and it’s a resource available 24/7 that can be accessed without leaving the comfort of your own home.
Parent Night Out Events
Once every quarter, we plan a Parent’s Night Out for the parents of Cardinal children. We’ll provide childcare in the indoor playground on the first floor of our center, and parents are encouraged to mingle on the second floor.
This is a less formal gathering than our Parent Support Group in that there’s no planned discussion, because we know as well as you do that sometimes, you just need the night off. You can trust that your children are in good hands, so relax and have a good time!
Parent Support Group
In our Parent Support Group, you’ll have a chance to sit down with other parents of children with autism, and we’ll provide free childcare for your Cardinal child and their siblings for the length of the meeting.
Our Family Resource Coordinator will facilitate parent-led discussions with meaningful topics that are relevant to your life and your family, enabling you to make lasting connections and friendships with other parents in a similar situation to your own.
Sibling Support Group
Our Sibling Support Group is designed for ages 8-13 and allows the siblings of children with autism to come together and meet others who share their experiences.
Our Family Resource Coordinator supervises the siblings in engaging, age-appropriate activities, so they’ll have the opportunity to meet kids in similar situations and have fun doing so! These groups are open to siblings of Cardinal clients and to the public.
